Entry Forms Now Available for VSGA Men’s, Women’s and One-Day Events

Tournament entry forms for VSGA MEN’S, WOMEN’S and JUNIOR championships as well as for 105 ONE-DAY EVENTS, for golfers of all abilities, are now available for sign-up online or in printable format on the VSGA Web site at www.vsga.org.

Participants for all events have the choice to sign up online with a credit card or download a printable application and submit a paper entry to the VSGA.

As the season approaches, we also want to remind participants of some policies and procedures for VSGA events in 2012:

VSGA Men’s Championships

* New for 2012, at the 70th renewal of the VSGA Club Championship, clubs may have any mix of regular and senior competitors that they would like on their team, with senior golfers (ages 55 and older) playing a shorter yardage.

* The format of the VSGA Public Links Championship will consist of 54 holes of stroke play. The 54 holes will be played over three days, with 18 holes per day. The field will be reduced to the low 45 competitors and ties for the final round.

* An additional age group for 75 and over golfers has been added to the VSGA Super Senior Amateur Championship. Age groups will now be 65-69, 70-74 and 75 and over. The event consists of two days of stroke play qualifying, with the top eight advancing to match play in the 65-69 age group. In the 70-74 and 75 and over age groups, either four or eight players will advance to match play, depending on the number of entries in each age group.

* With regard to eligibility for VSGA championships, the VSGA now considers college students to be residents of Virginia if either  their parents / guardians reside in Virginia or they attend a college or university in Virginia.

* Once again in 2012, qualifying will be conducted at six sites throughout Virginia for both the Four-Ball and the Senior Four-Ball. Additionally, non-exempt competitors also qualify to complete the field at the VSGA Amateur and SunTrust State Open (11 qualifying sites for both competitions), the Senior Open of Virginia (five qualifiers) and the Junior Stroke Play (seven qualifiers leading up to the championship).

VSGA Women’s Championships and Events

* At the VSGA Women’s Amateur Championship, there will again be two rounds of stroke-play qualifying to determine the match play field of 32.

Thereafter, in the match-play portion of the championship, the format will be single-elimination, with two rounds of matches per day leading up to the scheduled 18-hole final.

* At the VSGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, following stroke-play qualifying, continuing for 2012, 16 players will comprise the championship flight for match play. Stroke-play qualifiers who do not advance to the championship flight will still be placed in additional flights for match play based on their VSGA/USGA Handicap Index and seeded by their qualifying score.
