Subscription to Virginia Golfer
The VSGA ensures that member clubs and VSGA members stay informed about VSGA activities and about the state of our great sport throughout Virginia. One of the ways of spreading its message is through Virginia Golfer magazine, the VSGA’s official publication. If you are a member of the VSGA VIP program or a member of a club belonging to the VSGA, you should be receiving Virginia Golfer — if you are not receiving the magazine, please contact the editor or your member club. VSGA/USGA Handicap Index
Whether competing in an event at your club or in a VSGA One-Day event, you must have a VSGA/USGA Handicap Index. The purpose of the USGA Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling golfers of different abilities the chance to compete on an equal basis. The VSGA uses GHIN, a service of the USGA, to provide handicap services to its members and member clubs. Please note that Virginia observes a year-round posting season. Thus, a Handicap Index will be revised on the first and 15th of each month throughout the year (including Dec. 15, 2011).
Championships and One-Day Programs
The VSGA conducts men’s and women’s state championships. There is a full schedule of competitions for juniors and seniors, as well as annual team-match events with neighboring associations in West Virginia, the Carolinas and Maryland.
In addition, there are 100 VSGA One-Day handicap (net and gross) events scheduled annually, which are open to men and women of all abilities, enabling golfers of all abilities the opportunity to play Virginia’s finest courses while competing for prizes. The entry fee is $55 for VSGA members. Non-VSGA members may play on a space-available basis for $75 and are not eligible to win prizes. Visit VSGA Competitions or the March/April edition of Virginia Golfer for event eligibility guidelines and an entry form.
