Virginia to Observe Year-Round Active Posting Season

The VSGA recently adopted a new handicap revision schedule and active season dates that will go into effect later this year. Thus, VSGA member clubs should not shut down their posting computers after the Dec. 1 handicap revision, but instead keep them up and running so that members may continue to post scores through the winter months. Virginia will no longer observe an inactive season allowing instead for year-round posting.

With the new active season dates also comes a change to the handicap revision schedule. A Handicap Index will be revised on the first and 15th of each month throughout the year (including Dec. 15, 2009).  A total of 24 handicap revisions will take place beginning in 2010.

The 2010 Virginia Handicap Revision schedule will be as follows:

1. Jan. 1, 2010

2. Jan. 15, 2010

3. Feb. 1, 2010

4. Feb. 15, 2010

5. March 1, 2010

6. March 15, 2010

7. April 1, 2010

8. April 15, 2010

9. May 1, 2010

10. May 15, 2010

11. June 1, 2010

12. June 15, 2010

13. July 1, 2010

14. July 15, 2010
15. Aug. 1, 2010
16. Aug. 15, 2010
17. Sept. 1, 2010
18. Sept. 15, 2010
19. Oct. 1, 2010
20. Oct. 15, 2010
21. Nov. 1, 2010
22. Nov. 15, 2010
23. Dec. 1, 2010
24. Dec. 15, 2010

In prior seasons, Virginia followed an inactive posting season where rounds played in the Commonwealth during the months of December, January and February were unacceptable for purposes of score posting.  The final day to post a score in Virginia was Nov. 30 and the last handicap revision of the year took place on Dec. 1. The Virginia active season opened on March 1.

In addition to Virginia, other states observing year-round active posting season include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. A round played in one of those states is eligible for posting to a player’s handicap record, no matter the date of play.

With the new active season dates, rounds played in Virginia during any month will be acceptable for score posting. This will allow golfers that play during the winter months to continue posting scores in what was previously our offseason. VSGA members will also be able to receive an updated Handicap Index every two weeks throughout the year.

If you should have any questions regarding the changes to the new Virginia handicap revision schedule or active season dates, please contact the VSGA Handicap Department at (804) 378-2300.
