The VSGA recently made two changes on how and when your Handicap Index will be calculated. Virginia will no longer observe an inactive posting season, allowing instead for year-round score posting. With the new active season dates also comes a change to the handicap revision schedule. A Handicap Index will be revised on the first and 15th of each month throughout the year. A total of 24 handicap revisions will take place in 2010.
In prior seasons, Virginia followed an inactive posting season in which rounds played in the commonwealth during the months of December, January and February were unacceptable for purposes of score posting. In the past, the final day to post a score in Virginia was Nov. 30, and the last handicap revision of the year took place on Dec. 1, before the active season opened on March 1.
With the new active season dates, rounds played in Virginia during any month will be acceptable for score posting. This will allow golfers that play during the winter months to continue posting scores in what was previously the offseason in the commonwealth. Additionally, VSGA members will be able to receive an updated Handicap Index twice monthly throughout the year.
Any questions regarding changes to the handicap revision schedule or active season dates in Virginia can be directed to the VSGA handicap department at (804) 378-2300.
