VENUE: Waynesboro Country Club opened in 1950 and was designed by Fred Findlay. This will be the first year the VSGA member club has hosted the Senior Women’s Stroke Play Championship. The layout welcomed the VSGA Junior Amateur Championship in 1975 and 2002 as well as the 1971 State Open.

GROUPINGS AND STARTING TIMES: Groupings and starting times for the championship follow and will be posted on the VSGA’s Internet site at www.vsga.org.

WWW.VSGA.ORG: Log on to the VSGA Internet site (www.vsga.org) for the latest results and recaps from the 2010 VSGA Senior Women’s Stroke Play Championship. Starting times will begin at 8 a.m. off No. 1 tee both days. Additional championship information, including starting times, scores will also be available at www.vsga.org.

FORMAT: The championship is conducted at stroke play over 36 holes, 18 holes each day. The field will be flighted by the May 15 Handicap Index into flights. The overall champion is the player with the lowest 36-hole score. In addition, the champion and runner-up may come from any flight.

ELIGIBILITY: The championship is open to female golfers who will be at least 50 years of age by June 2, 2010. Participants must have a VSGA/USGA Handicap Index of 40.0 or less established at a VSGA member club and meet the USGA Rules of Amateur Status.

Altogether, 57 entries were accepted for the event.

PRIZES: Prizes will be awarded to the overall champion and overall runner-up as well as to the winner and runner-up in each flight. In addition, prizes will be awarded to the low senior senior (60-and-over) and the low most senior (70-and-over) as well as the first and second low net in each flight.

2009 RECAP:
Alexandria’s Linda DiVall (pictured left) made par on the second extra hole, the par-4 first hole, to outlast Boodie McGurn (Richmond) and win last year’s VSGA Senior Women’s Stroke Play Championship at Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club in Virginia Beach.

DiVall shot a final-round best 1-over-par 70 and concluded the championship at 4-over 142, along with McGurn, who had a final round 3-over 72. Portsmouth’s
Cindy Morris and central Virginian Natalie Easterly (Richmond) each shot back-to-back rounds of 72 and concluded the championship two strokes back at 6-over 144.

DiVall claimed her first VSGA Senior Women’s Stroke Play title and captured the third major VSGA senior title of her career, having also won the VSGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship in 2003 and 2007.

DiVall, McGurn and Morris are each in this year’s VSGA Senior Women’s Stroke Play field.
