Cindy Morris-Linda DiVall Final at the 53rd VSGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship at The Homestead's Old Course

Scheduled 18-hole final set for 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 30.

HOT SPRINGS –– Portsmouth’s Cindy Morris and Linda DiVall (Alexandria) posted two victories in quarterfinal and semifinal round matches and will meet in Friday’s scheduled 18-hole final at the 53rd Virginia State Golf Association Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at The Homestead’s Old Course (5,014 yards, par 36-36—72).

It’s a safe bet that no player in the match-play field had less time to relax and unwind at the posh western Virginian resort on Thursday than DiVall, who played 39 holes in registering a pair of victories.

In the morning session, DiVall (pictured left) outlasted Richmond’s Lindsay Wortham in 21 holes, before notching a 1-up victory over fellow northern Virginian Arline Hoffman in the semifinals. In the quarterfinals, Hoffman bested event co-medalist Boodie McGurn of Richmond, 1 up.

By now, DiVall, the event’s champion in 2003 and 2007, is well familiar with the finals stage, and will be making her third appearance in the deciding match in the past four years. DiVall fell to McGurn, 2 and 1 in last year’s finals.

She’ll face an equally worthy opponent in Morris on Friday. Making her second start in the championship since becoming age-eligible last year, Morris recorded 4 and 3 victory over Maggie Balch (Maidens) in Thursday’s quarterfinals before going on to end local Dot Bolling’s (Salem) title hopes by scoring a 5 and 4 win in the afternoon session.

Morris’s performance marks a continuation of her stellar play. Of the four matches she’s played leading up to the finals’, her closest match margin-wise was a 3 and 2 victory in Wednesday’s round of 16. Morris reached the round of 32 at last year's USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at the resort’s Cascades Course, and was a quarterfinalist at this summer’s VSGA Women’s Amateur Championship, falling to eventual champion Amanda Steinhagen, 1 up.

The championship match is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
