BRIDGEPORT, W.VA. –– Stoked by an event-best 4-under-par 68 from Sean Bosdosh, 18, of Clarksburg, Md., the eight player Maryland team rallied to post a two-stroke comeback victory as the 2nd Mid-Atlantic Junior Invitational concluded today at Pete Dye Golf Club (6,876 yards, par 36-36—72).
In the stroke play event, eight-player junior teams representing Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland competed in team competition, with the best six scores counted toward each team’s total.
Maryland began the day seven strokes off Virginia’s lead, but had team members post three rounds of 72 or better to post a repeat victory in the event. Virginia shot 16-over-par 448 in final day play (906, +42) to finish second, while West Virginia was third (928).
Bosdosh was the difference-maker on the last day. After opening with 75, he was one under par through 10 holes on the final day, but played a five-hole stretch from Nos. 12-16 in four under par. Bosdosh, who became the youngest winner in 89 years to win a Maryland Amateur Championship with his victory in June, was the low scorer at the event (143, -1). Also for Maryland, Keegan Boone (Bethesda, Md.) and Ryan Cole (Mount Airy, Md.) contributed final-day scores of even-par 72, while Alex Church (Timonium, Md.) added 1-over 73.
For Virginia, 16-year-old Alex Lloyd (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Jack Adkins, 18, of Martinsville, Va., posted team-best scores of even-par 72 on the final day. Lloyd led Virginia during the competition with a 3-over 147 aggregate. Blacksburg’s Jake Mondy, 17 and Korey Watts, 15, of Buchanan each had final round scores of 3-over 75.
Thadd Obecny of Wheeling, W.Va., carded a final-day team-best score of 3-over 75 for the hosts, while Taylor Green (Hurricane, W.Va.) paced West Virginia over the two days with an 8-over 152 aggregate.
The 2011 event will be played at the competition will be played at Woodholme Country Club in Pikesville, Md.
