2005 VSGA FOUR-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP FACT SHEET
May 6-7, 2005
at Chantilly National Golf and Country Club, Centreville, Va.

PAR AND YARDAGE:
Chantilly National Golf and Country Club is set at 7,098 yards and par is 36-36—72.

VENUE: Chantilly National Golf and Country Club opened in 1959 and was designed by golf course architect Ed Ault, before being renovated by Pete Dye in 1992. The VSGA Four-Ball Championship is making its first visit to Chantilly National Golf and Country Club. Chantilly has previously served as the site for a number of U.S. Open local qualifiers and was the venue for the MAPGA Match Play Championship. CNGCC was also the host club for the 2004 Northern Virginia Amateur.

CAN I PLAY?:
The championship is open to men’s amateur golfers, who have been residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia since Jan. 1, 2005. In addition, players must be a member of a VSGA member club, have a current VHP handicap and meet United States Golf Association amateur status rules.

ADMISSION: Admission is open to the public, free of charge and spectators are encouraged to attend.

HISTORY: The VSGA Four-Ball Championship was first played in 1966 and this year’s championship will be the 40th in the event’s history.

THE WINNER RECEIVES: The winner receives the Wallace McDowell trophy, honoring the longtime VSGA leader and the association’s former executive director.

SCHEDULE OF PLAY: Friday, May 6 – Starting at 8 a.m., first round (18 holes).
Saturday, May 7 – Starting at 7:30 a.m., second round (18 holes off of tees 1 and 10).

ON THE WEB: Log onto the VSGA’s Internet site (www.vsga.org) for the latest results and recap from the 40th VSGA Four-Ball Championship.

FIELD SIZE: There are 60 two-player teams and 120 totalplayers. The field is comprised of former champions (complete teams), top 10 finishers from the previous year, former VSGA Amateur, State Open and Mid-Amateur champions and players with success at the national, state and local championships. The remainder of the field was selected by using the combined handicap of team members.

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS: The tandem of Yorktown’s Allen Barber and Tazewell’s Charles E. Green III fired a final round 5-under-par 67 to win the last year’s VSGA Four-Ball Championship at Bide-A-Wee Golf Club (6,735 yards, par 36-36—72).

In a three-way tie for first place following an opening round 63, with their final round total Barber-Green finished the championship at 14-under-par 130. Opening day co-leaders and 2003 champions Alex Stanek and Matt Mankin of Roanoke closed play a shot back at 13-under-par 131 after posting a final round 68. Glen Allen’s Tony Good and Scottsville’s David Passerell, who were also tied for the top spot heading into final round action, and Allan Strange (Richmond)-Hank Klein (Glen Allen) completed play two shots back at 12-under-par 132. Strange-Klein matched the low round of the championship with a final round 63.

Green is not in this year’s Four-Ball field (Green’s daughter, Carol, is graduating from James Madison University). Meanwhile, Barber, ninth in the 2004 VSGA player rankings, will be teaming with West Point’s Paul C. Erdman, who was tenth among last year's points leaders.
