"For the future of golf in Virginia."
In order to ensure that promising young individuals who love the game have the support instrumental to their future successes, the VSGA formed the VSGA Scholarship Program of the Virginia Golf Foundation in 1985.
From awarding three scholarships worth $4,000 during its inception, the VSGA Scholarship Program of the Virginia Golf Foundation has now surpassed the $1.5 million level and has made a difference in the lives and careers of more than 700 Virginia high school students heading off to a college or university in the commonwealth.
Each year, the VSGA Scholarship Program of the Virginia Golf Foundation assists young men and women in advancing their education; funding of the scholarships comes primarily through the VSGA VIP Card Program. The requirements are that they have an interest in golf (ability not important), reside in Virginia and plan to attend a Virginia college or university.
The VSGA Scholarship Program of the Virginia Golf Foundation also offers special scholarships for students who want to pursue study in the science of turfgrass management, so vital the establishment, maintenance and playability of golf courses. The VSGA Women’s Division also awards its own special scholarships to rising high school students.
In addition, the VSGA Scholarship Program of the Virginia Golf Foundation receives funding from the tax-deductible gifts of generous individuals and corporations.
Applications for 2010 scholarships closed on Friday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m.
Scholarship applications for 2011 will be available at VSGA headquarters, from high school guidance counselors, at VSGA member clubs and the VSGA’s Web site at www.vsga.org. |
