MIDLOTHIAN, Va., Dec. 2, 2011 –– The VSGA handicap department offered eight USGA Handicap Certification seminars from September-December. VSGA member clubs were required to attend a workshop to issue a valid USGA Handicap Index to its members in 2012.

The curriculum for the seminars included:

  • A review of Definitions and focus on the content within the USGA Handicap System manual.
  • An interactive PowerPoint presentation featured an application of the principles found within the manual.
  • There was an opportunity for open discussions on how to solve common situations that take place within a golf club and its Handicap Committee.

Participants received a personalized certificate of attendance, and PGA members received five MSR Education Credits.

For VSGA member clubs, all clubs have until Dec. 31, 2011 to complete the requirements of the USGA Handicap System Licensing Program for Clubs. Please contact the VSGA Handicap Department at (804) 378-2300 if you have not met the requirements of the program.

We are in the final months of the current term for the USGA Handicap System Licensing Program for Clubs (2008-11). This means that in order for VSGA member clubs to continue issuing a valid USGA Handicap Index to their members, they must complete all of the necessary licensing requirements by the end of the year. If a club fails to complete the terms of this program by Dec. 31, 2011, its members will show a Handicap Index of “NH” on Jan. 1, 2012.
